about

Skavoovie & the Epitones first album, originally released by Moon Ska in 1995 is a benchmark for young ska bands of the era. The music draws heavily and directly from 60s ska delivered through a lens of their time. For a group of high schoolers hailing from the Boston area, the sound they achieved is fun, grooving and satisfylngly ambitious. Backed up by their high energy shows featuring a ten piece lineup, their debut album cemented their place as a flag bearer of what would eventually be known as "third wave ska." This digital release features two bonus recordings previously only available on a limited run 45 "Beardman Ska" and an early version of "Riverboat".

A bunch of teenagers hailing from greater Boston in the mid-90s, Skavoovie & the Epitones were on the the forefront of, what would become known as, "third-wave ska." Their youthful music is heavily inspired by "traditional" 60s ska through a lens of their era. With the debut originally on the venerable indie Moon Ska label. They played, recorded, people danced, and fun was had by all. ... more
